Summer, long-weekend-break, in Gozo.
Thursday, 26th to Monday 30th June, 2014.
Every so often, like everyone else I would think, I feel in need of some peace and quiet , and rather than join the Summer maddening crowds at Luqa airport to fly to destinations far and away, to meet more maddening crowds, we decide to spend a few days, in Gozo. Not that Gozo is the quiet, peaceful and tranquil place, that it was, 30, 20, or even 10 years ago, but it is still more restful than Malta, if one picks the right places to go to. Victoria, has become an extremely busy place, with an acute shortage of parking spaces, with vehicles of all sorts and make, going round and round the central part of the city, vying and in search for, that elusive space. In any case, Victoria is never our place of choice for a stay in Gozo, and we booked a room for four nights at one of our usual haunts, the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz .
At the Kempins...

Wejla by Tartarun - Sunday lunch 22nd June, 2014.
Wejla by Tartarun is one of the first three restaurants that have opened their doors to the general public at Smart City, Kalkara, Malta. Recently opened and launched in April of this year, Wejla run by the Schiavone family who are also the operators and owners of Tartarun Restaurant in Marsaxlokk, was designed and furbished to high quality standards from the very start, offering high standard cuisine listed in a short but very select menu. The restaurant lends itself well for business lunches, romantic dinners in a new and avant-garde setting, as well as for an up-market family lunch on Sundays.
The menu at Welja is not overtly large, in fact James and Stephen Schiavone, have selected the best dishes of Tartarun and introduced at Wejla namely; A selection of nine antipasti - Oysters au Naturel; Meagre gravalax; and deep Fried Anchovies Black mussels; etc; followed...

Indian Cuisine dinner at New Madras Indian Restaurant - Bugibba, Wednesday, 4th June, 2014.
Indian restaurants in Malta are becoming very popular, but it is not that easy to discover an establishment or two that would not diverge from the authenticity of this cuisine, which comes from vast selections from the hundreds of regions that together make this huge nation of 1.27 billion people.
New Madras restaurant, which incidentally has been for some ten years in Gandoffli Street, Bugibba, next door to Venus Restaurant, another top notch, WRMC Blue Riband restaurant, is operated by an Indian family who originated from Madras, therefore the food, spices, condiments and influence is centered around this region. Vellai Chamy Muthuraman the Chef-Patron has vast experience in this cuisine, having worked all his life in restaurants in India as well as overseas, which included some years as senior chef with Emirates Airlines Onboa...

Dinner at Paranga Restaurant St. Julians - Wednesday, 14th May, 2014.
Being established restaurant reviewers and consequently our dining out habits are much more frequent and well above the average, it is always a pleasure as well as a surprise to go to a restaurant to which we would not have gone before, and to have our expectations of the food served and the service exceeded.
Paranga Restaurant, which forms part of the InterContinental Hotel's beach club at St. George's Bay, had been on our sights for a review for some time, and finally decided to make a reservation for mid-week, thinking that it might be a quiet evening, something on which we were pleasantly mistaken, as the establishment was nearly fully booked for the evening.
We arrived at the restaurant just after 20.00, and were greeted a reception by Mattheo Biagini the Italian Maitre D' , who after offering us a welcome prosecco, led u...
