Dinner at Paranga Restaurant St. Julians - Wednesday, 14th May, 2014. Being established restaurant reviewers and consequently our dining out habits are much more frequent and well above the average, it is always a pleasure as well as a surprise to go to a restaurant to which we would not have gone before, and to have our expectations of the food served and the service exceeded.   Paranga Restaurant, which forms part of the InterContinental Hotel's beach club at St. George's Bay, had been on our sights for a review for some time, and finally decided to make a reservation for mid-week, thinking that it might be a quiet evening, something on which we were pleasantly mistaken, as the establishment was nearly fully booked for the evening.   We arrived at the restaurant just after 20.00, and were greeted a reception by Mattheo Biagini the Italian Maitre D' , who after offering us a welcome prosecco, led u...

Round-up of Restaurants visited in April, 2014. The Arches April 11th.. A splendid dinner at The Arches Restaurant in Mellieha on Friday, 11th April. Ambience, service and food quality is top class as it has always been, but then again this is what is expected of a WRMC Silver Spoon Restaurant. The menus were presented and as is normal with fine dining restaurants it consisted of just five starters, and six main courses, plus a selection of specials on a separate page, and five in-house made desserts. Amuse bouche of 4 x fresh baby oysters and nibbles, as well as pumpkin soup with rice ball were served pre- dinner. Food ordered: Tart Fine of Scallops & Pork Belly Apple Sorts, Quail’s Egg; Seafood risotto with king prawns; and two x maccaroni with fresh crab. Main Courses: two servings of fresh, locally caught Pesce di San Pietro; one x Mediterranean Grouper ‘En Papillote’ Smoked Garlic Pilaf Rice, Sear...

It is a fact that when one steps inside Palazzo Castelletti, one becomes part of the long and great legacy that is Maltese history. This noble building, built in the 17th century, bears witness to 2,000 years of turbulent, often dangerous times that shaped the fate of this island. Palazzo Castelletti has recently been restored and renovated to its former splendour, and it can be stated that it has passed from housing nobility to being used as a school and shelter for children during World War II as well as briefly being the residence of a holy woman, the venerable Adeodata Pisani, to what it is today. It was recently discovered that the building rests on the remains of an ancient Roman village that were unearthed and are open to viewing by the public. The rooms of Palazzo Castelletti, share their long history and we...
