Dinner at the Portomaso Casino Brasserie on Friday, 24th May, 2013. An enjoyable dinner at the Portomaso Casino Brasserie was had on Friday 24th May. This restaurant has been part of a recent Eur2 million refurbishment and enlargement of this casino, and the operators have set their sites to establish this dining venue as a one stop, fine dining establishment for visitors to the Casino as well as for discerning diners looking for fine dining at a good value for money. Apart from the daily al a carte menu and a fine wine list with very reasonable mark-up, (best I've seen for a while), the Portomaso Casino Brasserie also offers a Sunday buffet lunch at just EUR15 per person (excluding wine and beverages) as well as free parking at the Portomaso parking complex.       Antipasti: We ordered and were served an excellent selection of antipasti to share - beef carpaccio, marinated smoked salmon served...

Dinner at SaReGaMa Indian Restaurant on Friday, 26th Apil, 2013. Location: Fortina Hotel & Spa -Gardens - Tigne, Sliema.   SaReGaMa Indian Restaurant is located in the gardens of the Fortina Hotel and SPA, and has in the last year or so passed on to private operators. There has been considerable changes and refurbishments from our last review last year, through which it was awarded and listed as one of the top 30 restaurants in Malta. This restaurant serves fine authentic Indian cuisine, and choices vary from a vast selection of Indian regional dishes. Although fresh produce is sourced locally, SaReGaMa imports all its spices, herbs and curries from India to give that authentic taste to all their dishes, which can be ordered, mild, medium and spicy according to one's tastes.   The restaurant offers a vast, revamped, new a la carte menu at vastly improved prices per dish giving exceptional value for money,...

Dinner at: The Chophouse Restaurant, Tigne Point, Malta, on Friday, 12th April, 2013.   The Chophouse Restaurant, has been one of our favourite steakhouses since it opened at Tigne Point, only some three years ago. The ambience of the venue is marvelous, especially in the Summer months when the terrace would be opened for al fresco dining, and thus one can enjoy the fantastic view of the lighted Valletta bastions across Marsamxetto Harbour.   The Chophouse specializes in meats but we noted during our latest visit on Friday, 12th February, that they are also sourcing a selection of fresh fish from local fishermen and suppliers. Beef is sourced from various suppliers normally wet-aged and some instances whole sides are purchased then butchered on the premises as required. The Chophouse boasts  an open kitchen, fitted with a large charcoal grill, on which all meat as well as fish and seafood are cooked as requested...

Gozo - break 15th/17th February, 2013.   Week-end break in Gozo between Friday 15th and Sunday 17th February, proved to be very enjoyable with quite nice mild weather, a bit of warm sun and no rain. The Kempinski San Lawrenz Hotel and Spa was also good in most respects, as well as our visits to various restaurants on this green isle.     A couple of set-backs were the closed main roads from Victoria to Xlendi and from Gharb to Dwejra with the usual lack of proper road signage to show the way through the maze of secondary roads to these two normally very popular sites. Traffic management in Gozo needs a lot of polishing up, it was bad enough last Summer with most roads including the main street in Victoria, in disarray, and road signage that led motorists in a veritable circle to the same place where one would have started at in the first place, but TM never seem to learn from experience. ...

Family dinner to celebrate my daughter's birthday, on the 1st of February, 2013. Since our last visit and review published on the 2nd of November, 2012, this restaurant was inspected and adjudicated  previously as well as after that date and was nominated  as one of the top 30 restaurants in the Maltese Islands, and listed in "The 2013 WRMC top 30 Restaurants Guide". Taking into consideration the fact that there are some 1500 registered and licensed restaurants in both Malta and Gozo,  this is not an easy task in itself to achieve, but  The Arches was also short listed with the final six nominees, and awarded the WRMC 1 Silver Spoon Award which is based on the complete dining experience. We have recently re-visited this restaurant to celebrate the 36th birthday of my daughter in a family gathering and were once again fully satisfied that this establishment's quality consistency is outstanding. I shall not delve into the genera...
